Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil, for frying
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • For the Sauce:
    • 3 tbsp honey
    • 2 tbsp soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
    • 1 tsp five-spice powder
    • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • Garnish:
    • Sesame seeds
    • 1 scallion, chopped

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken thighs dry.
  • Coat the chicken evenly in a mix of cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
  • Fry in hot oil for 5–7 minutes per side until crispy and cooked through.
  • Remove chicken and melt butter in the same pan, scraping browned bits.
  • Mix sauce ingredients and simmer until slightly thickened.
  • Coat chicken in the glaze, garnish with sesame seeds and scallions, and serve.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add chili flakes to the glaze.
  • Substitute tamari for a gluten-free version.
