- 5 boneless chicken thighs
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp oil, for frying
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 tsp five-spice powder
- 2 cloves garlic, grated
- Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- 1 scallion, chopped
Instructions
- Pat the chicken thighs dry.
- Coat the chicken evenly in a mix of cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
- Fry in hot oil for 5–7 minutes per side until crispy and cooked through.
- Remove chicken and melt butter in the same pan, scraping browned bits.
- Mix sauce ingredients and simmer until slightly thickened.
- Coat chicken in the glaze, garnish with sesame seeds and scallions, and serve.
Notes
- For extra spice, add chili flakes to the glaze.
- Substitute tamari for a gluten-free version.
